About

Hep Free BC serves as our north star and constant inspiration, driving our collective aim to eliminate viral hepatitis in British Columbia by 2030. It is our commitment to this cause that fuels our efforts and guides BC’s efforts towards a future free from hepatitis in the province.

With the expertise of our members and partnerships with key stakeholders, we are reshaping the landscape of viral hepatitis in BC, working towards a future where hepatitis is no longer a public health threat.

Our coalition brings together members with diverse experiences and knowledge to better understand the current state-of-play of viral hepatitis in BC. Following this consultation, recommendations to reach elimination of viral hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030 will be developed. Participants include individuals with lived experience of viral hepatitis, healthcare professionals, government officials, the BC Centre for Disease Control, community-based organizations, researchers, advocates, and skilled project staff.

The project is being co-led by Sofia Bartlett (BC Centre for Disease Control) and Deb Schmitz (BC Hepatitis Network). Read more about our leadership and accountability structure in the FAQs.

Our objective is to gain comprehensive insights into the current status of viral hepatitis within the province. We aim to establish clear targets and goals for eliminating viral hepatitis in BC, while identifying and proposing effective strategies, activities, and policy adjustments. We will also determine the necessary implementation and monitoring resources to successfully achieve viral hepatitis elimination by 2030.
